- The tax credit is available for first-time home buyers only.
- The maximum credit amount is $8,000.
- The credit is available for homes purchased on or after April 9, 2008 and before July 1, 2009.
- Single taxpayers with incomes up to $75,000 and married couples with incomes up to $150,000 qualify for the full tax credit.
- The tax credit works like an interest-free loan and must be repaid over a 15-year period.

SNOW HILL — Buzz Shackleford stepped on the tee box at the third hole at Cutter Creek Golf Club earlier this week, took a swing and watched his ball sail over a pond and into a gravel-filled pit — exactly where he wanted.
By this fall, that landing spot will be plush, green grass, as will the rest of the some 220 acres taking shape into what Shackleford vows will be "eastern North Carolina’s premiere golf course."
The anticipated opening date is Oct. 1.
"We are well on the way to opening this golf course October 1," Shackleford said in an interview in the Cutter Creek sales office. "We're moving — fast." Read More

He started with one house on a country road outside of Greenville. Thirty years later, Bill Clark has had a hand in more than 130 residential and commercial developments in North Carolina and South Carolina, some 53 of which dot the Pitt County landscape. There have been challenges along the way: dips in demand when interest rates rise; complying with more stringent regulations; land, material and labor costs shooting through the roof; and competition vying for a piece of hot markets. He's seen other builders either fold up or consolidate. And if not for the presence and drive of his three sons — Heath, Hunter and Lance — the 64-year-old Warrenton native probably would have called it a career years ago.
